Seal Beach vs Surf City
Posted by pathale under community, happenings, seal beach | Tags: huntington beach, seal beach, sunset beach annexation |Leave a Comment
Last week, contrary to the desires of Sunset Beach residents, the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) voted to put Sunset Beach under the “sphere of influence” of Huntington Beach. This makes it more likely that the unincorporated community would be annexed by Huntington Beach.
On Monday of this week, the Seal Beach City Council directed city staff to come back at their next meeting with a report on annexation of Sunset Beach.
The residents want to remain just as they are, but this appears unlikely.
Greg Griffin, president of the Sunset Beach Community Association, said ”100 percent of the people here don’t want to be annexed by anybody. When I asked if your back was to the wall and you had to pick between Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, 9 out of 10 people who made a choice, picked Seal Beach. Even though that data was presented to LAFCO, they still put us in the sphere of Huntington Beach.”
Stay tuned.

Main Street Sushi
Posted by pathale under community | Tags: main street, seal beach restaurants |[2] Comments
We’ve seen Main Street add ethnic restaurants recently (Vietnamese, Thai) and now we are getting Sushi. The former Sweet Berry Bliss is undergoing a transformation that will result Waki Sushi. According to my friends, Waki Sushi is a “fast food” style food establishment. The sushi is satisfactory elsewhere so it something that we should all look forward to.
The restaurant won’t open for approximately three months (October time frame).
In related news, the city council capped the number of alcohol permits to 23. Waki Sushi is number 22 and Pho Basil Leaf is expected to be number 23.

Today in Seal Beach

I was noticing on my walk in town today how warm it is even though it is overcast. I walked over to the new houses on Marina and 4th Street and got to take a sneak preview inside. Wow, they are really nice and have a great roof top deck. I was told they are going to sell one now, so if anyone has any interested give me a call.
Also don’t forget the Tree Party is set for June 27, 2009. It is a lot of fun, good music and dancing.

I am just writing today about how beautiful it is in Seal Beach. I walked over to Bogart’s Coffee Shop and got a chi tea, then across the street for a quick walk on the Pier.
I call it my therapy for the day.
I have been so busy the last two months in Real Estate. I do not read the news paper or listen to any bad news anymore. I really think all of the bad press really affected my business and me personally. I just do what I have been doing since 1979 and that is selling Real Estate.
It’s working!
Give me a call if you want to buy or sell a home. It’s not as bad as they all say.

Housing affordability up
Posted by pathale under community | Tags: housing affordability, seal beach real estate |Leave a Comment
The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) showed that over 72% of all new and existing homes sold in the first quarter of 2009 were affordable to families earning the national median income. This was a jump of 10 percentage points.
This improvement can be attributed to lower home prices and record low interest rates.
While it may not mean much in coastal communities, any improvements in the housing sector is good news.

In search of coffee

If you are in the Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, or Belmont Shore – and you are in need of coffee – you have choices. I know that I won’t have it complete, but here is at least a partial list of coffee houses in these communities.
Sunset Beach. Daily Grind and Starbucks.
Belmont Shore (2nd Street). Two Starbucks, Peets, Coffee Bean, It’s a Grind, and Polly’s Coffee.
Seal Beach (Main Street area). Coffee Bean, Daily Grind, Javatini, Bogarts.
Seal Beach (Rossmoor Center area). Starbucks and Peets.
Seal Beach (Boeing area). Starbucks.
The many restaurants in these communities also serve reasonably good coffee. But the coffee houses have that special ambiance that we all seem to enjoy.
