Our neighbor to the south, Huntington Beach, will host the Hurley US Open of Surfing July 18-26, 2009. Crowds up to 500,000 people attend this event in the real Surf City.

The event was first held in 1959 as the West Coast Surfing Championships.  The event has evolved in the last 50 years to become this exciting event with a brand new sponsor.

I was noticing on my walk in town today how warm it is even though it is overcast.  I walked over to the new houses on Marina and 4th Street and got to take a sneak preview inside.  Wow, they are really nice and have a great roof top deck.  I was told they are going to sell one now, so if anyone has any interested give me a call.

Also don’t forget the Tree Party is set for June 27, 2009.  It is a lot of fun, good music and dancing.

I am just writing today about how beautiful it is in Seal Beach.  I walked over to Bogart’s Coffee Shop and got a chi tea, then across the street for a quick walk on the Pier.

I call it my therapy for the day.

I have been so busy the last two months in Real Estate.  I do not read the news paper or listen to any bad news anymore.  I really think all of the bad press really affected my business and me personally.  I just do what I have been doing since 1979 and that is selling Real Estate.

It’s working!

Give me a call if you want to buy or sell a home.  It’s not as bad as they all say.

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) showed that over 72% of all new and existing homes sold in the first quarter of 2009 were affordable to families earning the national median income.  This was a jump of 10 percentage points.

This improvement can be attributed to lower home prices and record low interest rates.

While it may not mean much in coastal communities, any improvements in the housing sector is good news.

If you are in the Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, or Belmont Shore – and you are in need of coffee – you have choices.  I know that I won’t have it complete, but here is at least a partial list of coffee houses in these communities.

Sunset Beach.  Daily Grind and Starbucks.

Belmont Shore (2nd Street).   Two Starbucks, Peets, Coffee Bean, It’s a Grind, and Polly’s Coffee.

Seal Beach (Main Street area).  Coffee Bean, Daily Grind, Javatini, Bogarts.

Seal Beach (Rossmoor Center area).  Starbucks and Peets.

Seal Beach (Boeing area).  Starbucks.

The many restaurants in these communities also serve reasonably good coffee.  But the coffee houses have that special ambiance that we all seem to enjoy.

It’s time for the Belmont Shore Stroll and Savor.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday May 20 and Thursday May 21.  This event takes place between 5:30 – 9:00 pm.  These are the first dates for this season.

You’ll be able to stroll 2nd Street between Quincy and Bayshore and get samplers from over 30 restaurants.   Purchase your tickets or ticket books at a booth at the Chase Bank on 2nd Street (12 tickets for $10).  Use those tickets to sample sushi, chicken, whatever.

We had an earthquake the other day that the USGS reported at 4.7 centered in Lomita.  It created quite a lot of shaking here in Seal Beach, but very little damage locally.

There was one photo in the Los Angeles Time of workers sweeping up debris in a Starbucks in Hawthorne (near the epicenter).

Today, shortly before 4pm there was an aftershock measured to be 4.1.  There was a short jolt here in the area but nothing like the other day.

Fun on Main Street

Fun on Main Street

The car show is well underway and crowded.  I wish I could estimate the crowds but unfortunately I cannot.  I can tell you it was difficult walking down Main Street.  There was pedestrian gridlock from people just stopping to admire the many vehicles on display.

There was music scheduled at three bandstands up and down Main Street.

It’s not even 7:30 am yet, but there are reports already of many cars entering Seal Beach.  These reports describe them as vintage and most with throaty sounds – in other words, with lots of muscle.  They’ve been seen as early as 6 am.

Today’s the Seal Beach Classic Car Show.  See you on Main Street.  Have fun!

Stop by and visit me.  We have some nice homes in the area that are available so next year you can walk to town.  Seaside Brokers.  Pat Hale.  www.pathaleonline.com
